Japanese Red Pine
Pinus Densiflora
Overview
Pinus densiflora, commonly known as Japanese Red Pine, adds exotic appeal with reddish-brown bark that peels in plates. This conifer grows 20-60 ft tall, with a spread of 15-25 ft, ideal for medium-sized gardens. Preferring full sun and well-drained soil, it's hardy to USDA zone 3. Needles in bundles of two add year-round interest. It's an excellent specimen for bonsai or a naturalistic landscape setting.
