Overview
Eastern Hop Hornbeam (Ostrya virginiana), a durable native understory tree, grows 20-40 ft. tall with a slender, rounded crown. This deciduous species boasts fine-textured leaves that turn attractive yellow in fall. Recognizable for its shaggy bark and hop-like fruit clusters, it thrives in well-drained soils under full sun to part shade. Its dense wood and resistance to disease make it ideal for urban plantings and natural landscapes.
