Hazel Alder

Overview

The Hazel Alder (Alnus serrulata), a deciduous shrub found in wet environments, thrives alongside streams and marshes. It typically grows 12-20 feet high with a spread of 8-15 feet. Its rounded leaves sport finely toothed margins and a glossy texture. In early spring, catkins add interest, while the dark green foliage transforms to yellow in the fall. It favors acidic, moist soils and full to partial sun exposure. Hardy in Zones 4-9.
