Overview
Quercus nigra, commonly known as Water Oak, is a fast-growing deciduous hardwood. It features a broad, rounded canopy with smooth-edged, spatula-shaped leaves that turn yellow-brown in fall. Adaptable to wet and dry soils, it thrives in USDA zones 6-9, reaching 50-80 feet high with a spread of 40-60 feet at maturity. Its acorns provide wildlife sustenance. Ideal for large landscapes, it requires space to accommodate its expansive root system.
