The Hackberry Beardtongue, scientifically named Penstemon subulatus, is a perennial native to Arizona with vibrant red tubular flowers that bloom from spring to early summer. This drought-tolerant species reaches up to 3 feet in height and prefers well-drained soils, thriving in full sun to partial shade. Its striking appearance attracts hummingbirds and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for xeriscapes and pollinator gardens. Zones 7-10.
