Pennyroyal
Mentha Pulegium
Overview
Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) is a creeping perennial herb in the mint family. It has a pronounced minty fragrance, standing 6-12 inches tall with small, oval leaves and lilac flowers. This ground cover spreads quickly in moist soils and partial shade, ideal for edge plantings or herbal gardens. It requires caution as it is toxic when ingested in large quantities. Pennyroyal repels insects, making it a functional addition to a landscape.
