Butternut

Overview

The Butternut, or Juglans cinerea, is a deciduous tree native to the Eastern United States and Canada. Often reaching heights of 40-60 ft with a canopy spread of 35-50 ft, its sculptural form features compound leaves and drooping catkins. It produces oval nuts encased in a sticky, green husk. Preferring well-drained soils, this tree offers a yellow fall coloration and serves as a source of food for wildlife.
