It reaches up to 10 feet tall, sporting multiple slender stems about 2.5 inches in diameter, densely covered with silvery spines. This cactus prefers well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade. In summer, mature plants produce tubular red or burgundy flowers. A low-maintenance choice, it adds vertical interest to xeric landscapes and rock gardens.
