Overview
The Pacific Yew (Taxus brevifolia) is an evergreen with a narrow, columnar form, reaching up to 50 feet tall and spreading 20 feet wide. It sports dark green needles and bears red, berry-like fruits. Prefers moist, well-drained soil with partial to full shade. Hardy to zone 6, it's revered for its ornamental qualities and the cancer-fighting compound, taxol, found in its bark.
