Overview

The Sugar Bush (Rhus ovata) is an evergreen shrub native to the Southwest, flourishing in USDA zones 8-11. It boasts a rounded shape with glossy, leathery leaves and can reach 8-12 feet high with a similar spread. Clusters of small, white to pinkish flowers emerge in spring, followed by reddish-brown berries popular with wildlife. Drought-tolerant once established, it requires well-drained soil and full to partial sun exposure.
