Overview
Illicium floridanum, or Florida Anise Tree, is an evergreen shrub reaching 6-10 ft tall and 4-8 ft wide. Native to the southeastern US, it thrives in partial to full shade, in moist, well-drained soil. With star-shaped, red to maroon flowers in spring and aromatic, leathery leaves, it provides year-round interest. Best used in woodland gardens for underplantings or naturalized settings. USDA Zones 7-9. Toxic if ingested.
