Tecate Cypress

Overview

The Tecate Cypress (Hesperocyparis forbesii) is a rare conifer reaching 10-25 feet in height with a 6-10 feet spread. Adapted to arid zones, it endures drought with scale-like green-gray leaves. Prefers full sun, well-drained soil. Fire-adaptive; it regenerates post-wildfires. Provides unique texture to landscapes and critical habitat for the endangered Thorne's Hairstreak butterfly. Ideal for Mediterranean-style gardens as a focal plant or natural screen. Hardy to Zone 8.
