The Big Nellie Hakea (Hakea archaeoides) is a striking evergreen native to Australia. Grows to about 10-20ft tall and 6-10ft wide. Its large, leathery leaves contrast with vibrant, red clusters of flowers in winter and spring, attracting birds. Prefers well-drained soils and full sun exposure. Drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal maintenance. An excellent choice for accent planting or as a screening plant in USDA zones 9-11.
