Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata the King,' a regal fern with crested, lance-shaped fronds, adds texture to shaded gardens. Hardy in USDA zones 4-8, it thrives in moist, well-drained soil, reaching 2-3 feet in height and spread. Its robust, evergreen foliage provides year-round interest. Best in part to full shade, it's an excellent choice for understory plantings and woodland themes. Prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH.
