Papyrus, Egyptian Paper Reed

Overview

Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus), an ornamental aquatic plant, conjures the look of ancient Egypt. Thriving in USDA zones 9-11, its tall, triangular stems can reach 8-10 ft, topped with feathery plumes. It demands full sun and wet soil, preferring to stand in water up to 4 inches deep. Ideal for water gardens, it adds height and texture. A frost-sensitive perennial, it requires winter protection or indoor relocation in colder zones.
