Sand Hickory

Carya Pallida

Design with this plant

Overview

The Sand Hickory (Carya pallida) is a hardy deciduous tree, thriving in well-drained sandy soils. With a mature height of 65-100 feet and a spread of 35-50 feet, its narrow canopy features finely textured, pinnate foliage that turns yellow in fall. Drought-resistant, it produces edible nuts encased in thin husks. Suited for zones 6-9, it's an excellent choice for naturalistic designs and attracts a variety of wildlife.
