Overview

Red Hickory (Carya ovalis), a deciduous tree, typically reaches 60 to 80 ft with a spread of 20 to 30 ft. Its oblong, serrated leaves turn golden in fall, and its bark is tight and vertically ridged. Prefers well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Produces edible nuts enclosed in thin husks, attracting wildlife. Hardy, with slow to moderate growth.
