Coast Barberry
Berberis Pinnata
Overview
The Coast Barberry, Berberis pinnata, is a resilient evergreen shrub thriving in USDA zones 7-10. It features holly-like, pinnate leaves and spring clusters of yellow flowers, maturing to purplish-black berries. Ideal for erosion control, it reaches 3-6 feet in height with a similar spread. Prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Its thorny branches and drought tolerance make it a fine choice for defensive plantings and xeriscaping.
