Bearberry

Overview

Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), an evergreen groundcover, thrives in USDA zones 2-6. It features leathery leaves and bell-shaped flowers. Post-spring blooms turn to red berries, attracting wildlife. The plant spreads 3-6 feet, reaches 6-12 inches high, and enjoys full sun to partial shade with well-drained, acidic soil. It's drought-tolerant once established, ideal for erosion control and low-maintenance areas. Notable for vibrant fall color and winter interest.
