Serviceberry

Overview

The Serviceberry (Amelanchier spp.) is a versatile deciduous shrub or small tree beloved for its early spring blooms of delicate white flowers, followed by edible dark purple berries that attract birds. Reaching 6-25 feet tall with a similar spread, it features smooth, gray bark and stunning fall foliage in shades of yellow, orange, and red. Preferring full sun to partial shade, Serviceberry adapts well to a range of soil types. Hardy and low-maintenance, it serves as an excellent multi-season ornamental.
