New Zealand Burrs
Acaena Microphylla
Overview
Acaena microphylla, commonly called New Zealand Burrs, is a low-growing perennial featuring delicate, fern-like foliage. With leaves spanning roughly 2-4 inches, it thrives in USDA zones 6-9. Tiny, coppery burrs appear in summer, adding texture. Preferring well-drained soil and full sun to part shade, it's perfect as a 2-inch-high ground cover, spreading up to 18 inches. Maintenance is minimal, making it ideal for borders or rock gardens.
